One practice, connected ways to find support
The Brighton Center for Neurodevelopment is the Brighton, Michigan clinical setting for Dr. Mark Bowers's in-person evaluation work. This page introduces the space and what to expect when visiting. DrMarkBowers.org brings that clinical work together with information about evaluations, virtual consultations, educational resources, and the Here's What We Can Do™ membership. You can explore those options throughout this website, whether or not you visit the center.
Before your visit
New places can feel uncertain. Watch a walkthrough of the center at your own pace. Families can revisit it together to get familiar with the space before appointment day.

How we approach the day
You may arrive with a plan for an evaluation. But if a child is anxious, exhausted, overwhelmed, or simply having a hard day, we pay attention to that.
We can slow down, offer breaks, adjust how we connect, or gather information another way when clinically appropriate. Some standardized tests require specific conditions. If those conditions cannot be met, we may complete testing another day or pivot to other clinically appropriate ways of gathering the information we need.
A place to be yourself
“One of my greatest professional joys is when someone feels safe enough to be their authentic self in my office, without feeling they have to mask or worry about judgment, shame, or embarrassment.”
Dr. Mark Bowers
There is no expectation to unmask. Our responsibility is to create a setting where each person can feel accepted and choose how they show up.
What we evaluate
You do not need to know the perfect label before you reach out. We can help determine which evaluation route may be appropriate.
Autism assessments for children, teens, and adults, shaped by the individual’s developmental history, lived experience, and clinical questions.
A focused look at attention, executive functioning, and related concerns across childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.
Reading, writing, mathematics, memory, thinking, and other learning or cognitive questions that may benefit from more extensive testing.
For people seeking a more complete understanding of overlapping developmental, behavioral, emotional, or diagnostic questions.
What to expect
We want you to understand the process before you arrive. Your assessment will be shaped by the questions being asked and the individual being evaluated.
Share your concerns, goals, and any useful previous reports or school documents. Our team can explain the appointment process.
Interviews, observation, and selected tests are chosen according to the clinical questions and the individual's needs.
Receive a written report with findings and recommendations when applicable, so you have a clearer direction forward.
No referral is required. Brighton Center is fee-for-service and does not bill insurance directly. HSA and FSA cards are accepted. We can provide superbill documentation with relevant codes so families may seek reimbursement from their insurer after services. Coverage and reimbursement depend on the plan and are not guaranteed.
