Adult ADHD, autism & neurodevelopmental evaluations

It's not too late
to understand yourself.

Maybe you've spent years wondering why some things feel harder than they seem to for others. Maybe you've learned to compensate so well that nobody sees the effort. You deserve answers that consider the whole person.

You can explore the possibilities without committing to an assessment.

A different starting point

What if your experience has never quite matched the explanation?

Some adults recognize themselves while learning about their child's diagnosis. Others have always felt different but never had language for it. Some have known they are neurodivergent for years and want a clearer picture.

An evaluation isn't about finding something wrong with you. It's an opportunity to look at your history, strengths, daily life, and the questions that matter now.

You don't have to justify the years it took to ask the question.

Find the assessment that fits

Start with what you're wondering about.

The categories overlap. Choose the one closest to your question, and we can help determine whether another route makes more sense.

Science, not shame

A diagnosis can be useful. Understanding matters either way.

Some adults want documentation for services or accommodations. Others want an explanation for years of experience, or simply want to know what supports might fit. A diagnosis is not the only way to begin learning about yourself.

How you can be seen

Virtual access.
In-person options.

Not every assessment needs to happen in a clinic. The right setting depends on the questions, methods, clinical fit, and documentation requirements.

Virtual with Dr. Bowers

Adult ADHD, autism, and some broader evaluations may be available remotely when clinically appropriate and permitted by applicable licensure or PSYPACT authorization. For PSYPACT-based evaluations, the client must be physically located in a participating state or jurisdiction at the time of service.

In person at Brighton Center

Adult ADHD, autism, and neuropsychological testing are also offered at Brighton Center for Neurodevelopment in Michigan. Some test requirements favor an in-person visit.

For virtual evaluations involving young children who are preverbal or nonverbal, the ADOS-2 is not administered remotely. For older, verbally fluent individuals, assessment methods depend on clinical circumstances.

Questions we hear

You don't have to be certain.

Isn't it too late for a diagnosis?

No. Adults may pursue assessment at many different stages of life. Whether it would be useful depends on what you want to understand or accomplish.

What if I've masked for years?

We consider developmental history, your internal experience, and the strategies you've used to get through daily life. You do not have to perform a particular version of yourself during an evaluation.

Does every evaluation result in a diagnosis?

No. The purpose is to answer the referral questions as accurately as possible. Findings may support a diagnosis, point toward another explanation, or identify areas that need further consideration.

Could anxiety, sleep, trauma, or other factors be involved?

Yes. Overlapping experiences are part of the clinical picture. We consider relevant alternative and co-occurring explanations rather than assuming every difficulty comes from ADHD or autism.

Do I need testing to request accommodations?

Documentation needs differ by workplace, school, agency, and program. Check the specific requirements before booking so we can discuss whether the assessment you're considering is appropriate.

Will my insurance cover the evaluation?

These services are fee-for-service and are not billed directly to insurance. HSA and FSA cards are accepted, and superbill documentation can be provided to seek possible out-of-network reimbursement. Payment by an insurer is not guaranteed.
